Eagleville Grocery Opening Day Big Success
Grand Opening Celebration November 3rd

By Glenda Dyer

The Eagleville Grocery store opened Oct. 9 to a crowd of happy shoppers after having been closed for several months.

New owners Brad and Ryan Perryman are now planning a grand opening celebration for Saturday, Nov. 3, with a professional clown on site entertaining the children with face painting and balloon sculptures.

"We will be giving away a lot of prizes all day long and also homemade baked goods for the customers’ enjoyment," the Perrymans said. "Some of our vendors and friends will also be participating in giving away free stuff so there should be plenty of exciting things going on all day long."

In conjunction with the grand opening, the store is having special sales the week of Oct. 30 through Nov. 5.

Brad and Ryan are the sons of the late Alan Perryman, a long-time grocer, and Jacque Perryman Dospil. The Perrymans co-owned the former Henry and Al’s grocery with Henry Ghee from 1994 to 2004.

The brothers have renamed the store the "Eagleville Grocery."

A number of customers interviewed on the opening day expressed their pleasure at the store’s opening.

"I think it is a beautiful set up," Michael Jensen said. "I am glad to see that they have reopened it, and I think they have really made an effort to make it a good part of the community."

Dot Patterson said she no longer will have to stock a lot of groceries at home now that the local store is back open.

"It is convenient because it is just a mile away from my house, and I don’t have to drive far," she said. "I can get ready to cook and can come up here and get what I need and go home and cook it."

Wade "Buddy" Taylor said he didn’t realize he would miss the store until it was gone.

"I’m glad it is back," he said.

Taylor’s wife, Janice, also said that it is good to have the store back.

"We need a grocery store here," she said. "It is too far to go get bread, milk, or whatever and have to drive 10 miles at least. I am glad for the town."

Linda Skinner said she is also happy to have a grocery store in Eagleville again.

"I usually stop everyday," she said. "I am always just needing one thing to finish up something."

Also on opening day, Brad and Ryan’s mother and grandmother expressed their sentiments about the brothers’ venture.

"I’m so proud for the boys, and I think their daddy would be really proud," mother Jacque Perryman Dospil said. "They have worked hard and done good."

Grandmother Frances Wigington of the Holts Corner area said, "I almost cried because I was so pleased to see what they were doing and how happy they were because this store means a lot to them."

Dana Perryman, Brad’s wife, said customers were backed up almost to the meat counter on opening day.

"Everybody has just been amazing," she said. "They all just voiced how glad they are to have it open and how clean and pretty it looks, and they have all been so excited."

Dana’s parents, David and Brenda Beasley, donated a wooden bench that sits outside the front of the grocery store.

"My dad plans to carve an eagle on it later," she said. "We have had all sorts of people come and donate time to help get (the store) going."

The Eagleville Grocery hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, and the new phone number at the store is 274-2560.
