Eagleville Grocery Opening Date Set
The new owners of the grocery store in Eagleville closed on the sale Sept. 6 and hope to have the local landmark open again by Oct. 8 or 9. The owners are brothers Brad and Ryan Perryman, who are the sons of the late Alan Perryman, a long-time grocer, and Jacque Perryman Dospil. The Perrymans co-owned the former Henry and Al’s grocery with Henry Ghee from 1994 to 2004. The grocery will remain affiliated with Mitchell Grocery but will be renamed "Eagleville Grocery." According to Ryan, Mitchell Grocery is the largest independently owned food distributor in the southeast. Brad, who will manage the store, expects the sign reflecting the new name to arrive about the first of October. "After we closed we immediately came in and started cleaning and throwing stuff away and completely stocking it back with new merchandize," Brad said in an interview last Wednesday. He and his wife, the former Dana Beasley of Unionville, and other workers were painting and cleaning that day. Dana, who has the Crazy Chameleon beauty shop in Unionville, will work part time in the grocery. She grew up on a dairy farm in the Unionville community and never thought she would be working in the grocery business. "I’ve always loved coming to the store though because Brad’s daddy was part owner of it," she said. "Eagleville is the neatest little community anyway and to me (opening the store) is just really exciting." The couple has three children, Tayler, 12, David, 9, and Cole, 4. The two older ones are students at Community School in Unionville. "They will all be helping out here," their mother said. Brad, who is 31, has left his job as a welder at the Holt company in Eagleville to work full-time at managing the store. "I quit down there to dedicate my 12 hours a day to here," he said. Ryan, who is 26, works in the computer field at RenTech in the Cool Springs area. He will probably work at the grocery on weekends and afternoons, Brad said. Ryan has one daughter, Morgan, who is 7. Applications for employees for the store were taken through Wednesday. Brad said he anticipates the store will have about four full-time employees to start out with and about 10 part-time. Butcher Brian Eady will be again be handling the meat at the Eagleville store. "I started with Alan (Perryman) when I was 13 and I came over here when he came and I’ve been here since then," Eady said. "He taught me everything I know." Eady said he is looking forward to being back working at the store with the Perrymans. "We’ve been together forever," he said. The new owners have painted the store inside and out and are putting in new meat freezers, some new coolers and as many new shelves as possible. "Anything we can replace we will to make it look fresher," Dana said. Store personnel will once again cook pizza on site that customers can pick up and will be adding some new items, such as Blue Bell ice cream. "We just can’t wait to get open where we can be here to get the people whatever they need and help them out as much as we can," Brad said. The store hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, and the new phone number at the store is 274-2560. (published Sept 15, 2007) |
