Crowd Filled Main Street For Eagleville’s 5th Annual Christmas Parade (published 12/15/2007)

Eagleville’s 5th Annual Christmas Parade was packed with entries from businesses, clubs, organizations and churches taking their place in line as it made its way through town.

Despite the threat of rain, the entries gathered at the school and by 10 a.m. they began to make their way to Highway 99.

The Eagleville School Jr. ROTC marched in step, performing a variety of quick step drills to delight onlookers. Eagleville School Marching Band kept a lively pace with drums. Their Maroon and Black uniforms looked great along the route.

John Edward Turner turned out in uniform, pulling one of his Civil War cannons. A number of Confederate re-enactors marched behind him.

Other entries included golf carts decorated in Christmas colors with sparkles, various vehicles carrying Sheriff Department personnel and vehicles carrying Eagleville business owners.

A variety of boys and girls on dirt bikes went at a slow pace compared to their usual racing speed. Four wheelers carried those not use to riding two wheels. A number of different groups of mounted riders were scattered throughout the parade and the horses seemed to enjoy the attention.

A tractor used by South Eastern Turf made quite a statement as the parade continued on its route to the Eagleville Co-Op area. A number of floats carried the Christmas theme and represented Just Dance, area churches, the Eagleville Football Team, and area businesses.

The grand marshal of the parade was country music performer Helen Cornelius, who road in Sam Tune’s historic carriage that was pulled by a pair of Belgian carriage horses.

Santa made his annual appearance. This year he was riding the Bumpus Harley-Davidson float.

Two Titan cheerleaders and the Titans mascot T-Rac joined the festivities. And the Rutherford County Mounted Police were impressive as they served as rear guard of the parade.

Fire engines from Eagleville, College Grove, Rockvale and Smyrna added to the festivities with sirens blaring.

The parade is a tradition that many would miss if it did not take place. The annual activity was organized this year by Sam Tune and Wayne Tucker.

A big thank you goes to everyone who organized it and helped with all the details. Thanks go also to everyone who participated and came out to watch.
