20th Annual Tractor Show

By Buddy Woodson

On September 7th, 8th and 9th the Tennessee Valley Pioneer Power Association hosted it’s 20th annual show at the show grounds on Chapel Hill Pike and what a show it was!! Hundreds of displays of antique tractors, equipment and gas engines filled the rolling hills of the grounds as exhibitors and spectators gathered from several states to step back in time and enjoy the weekend. The tractor pulls on Friday night and Saturday were jammed with competitiors competing for "bragging rights" on their favorite tractor. Sunday’s pull was rain shortened a little, but in the middle of draught, no one was complaining.

The show also featured " Farmer’s Junction" which is a demonstration area for the antique equipment nestled in the valley. Spectators enjoyed a stationary silage chopper, belt driven corn sheller, rock crusher, thrasher and hay baler in action. The kids also had a great time shelling corn with the hand shellers and playing in a trough of shelled corn. The children’s pedal tractor races and pulls were a big hit with the kids as proud parents and grandparents captured the action with their cameras.

The now famous skillet and wrench throwing contest was packed with participants seeing who had the strongest arm and best technique!! Slow races for the tractors were held on Saturday to see whose tractor could go the slowest and a judging event was held for those wishing to enter their tractor.

To provide great food and raise additional money to improve the show grounds, the club provided food and drinks for this years show. It was a busy time for all who worked cooking and serving the food and it could not have been done without the 20 plus community volunteers who worked long hours to help. The Eagleville School Band also hosted a dinner on the grounds on Saturday night and played the National Anthem for the opening ceremonies on Saturday as Taylor Bennett honored us singing. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who volunteered at the show!! We would also like to thank the Eagleville Fire department who volunteered countless man hours providing water for dust control for the grounds and the pulling track and for providing traffic control.

On behalf of the club, I would like to also thank the community of Eagleville for the hospitality shown to all our visitors and invite everyone to visit us on the web at www.eaglevilletvppa.com.
