Barbara Jean Byrd Holder, age 71, of the Allisona Community of Williamson County, died Monday, December 26, 2005 in Franklin after an extended illness. She was a native of Rossvill, Georgia and was a daughter of the late Thomas Britton and Margaret Juanita Haney Byrd. She was a homemaker, a member of the College Grove United Methodist Church and a member of the Franklin Chapter #449 Order of the Easter Star. Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by her husband, James Felix Holder, Sr. who died in 2001 and by a son James F. “Jimbo” Holder, Jr. who died in 1987.  Survivors include daughters Wanda J. Jackson of College Grove, Linda Ann Marlin of Thompson Station, Janie Ellis of Fayetteville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and, two great grandchildren.

William H. “Bill” Clark, age 72, of Unionville, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005 in Shelbyville. Mr. Clark was a native of Bedford County and a son of the late Thomas Sherman and Tennie Haynes Clark. He was retired from the maintenance department of Aladdin Industries in Nashville and was a member of Rover Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Martha Boyce Clark of Unionville; daughters Debbie Fann of Unionville, Sandy Canizalez of Shelbyville; son William Patrick Clark of Murfreesboro; sister Marie Cook of Unionville; brother Lewis Clark of Shelbyville; one granddaughter.

Ruby Haskins Parsons, age 81, of Unionville, died Monday, December 19, 2005 in Shelbyville after an extended illness. She was a native of Bedford County and was a daughter of the late James Alie and Mary Magdalene Pierson Haskins. She retired from Empire Pencil Company of Shelbyville after 26 years of service and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Clay Hill United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was preceded in death by her husband Herlie Gilbert Parsons who died in 2004, a daughter, Yvonne Gordon, a sister, Ruth Slaughter and two brothers, William Howard Haskins and Alie Hopkins Haskins.
Survivors include a son Derrell Parsons of Shelbyville; sisters Mae Harrell of Unionville, Mildred Falcon of Lewisburg; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

James Edwin Vaughn, age 64, an avid bird hunter and bass fisherman, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at his home in Eagleville. He was a native of Rutherford County and was a son of the late Robert and Molly Lee Lynch Vaughn. He was a member of the Class of 1959 of Eagleville High School and served in the Army National Guard. Mr. Vaughn was a retired employee of the Rutherford County Highway Department.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Vaughn of Eagleville; sons Bruce (Teresa) Vaughn of Bell Buckle and Brian Vaughn and Brad (Julie) Vaughn, both of Murfreesboro; sisters Mary Mankin, Doris Schilling and Peggy Jewell, all of Murfreesboro; brother Billy Vaughn of Eagleville; very special grandchildren Molly and Natalie Vaughn and other special grandchildren Courtney Vaughn, Jessica Flowers, and Madison, Mark and Matthew Moore; a devoted mother-in-law, Julie Blythe of Murfreesboro; and many special friends.

William Douglas Jones, age 66, of Smyrna died Saturday, December 17, 2005, at his home. He was a native of Davidson County and the son of the late Andrew J. and Alma Barfield Jones Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Jones; daughter Jennifer L. Jones of Smyrna; son Eric D. Jones of La Vergne; grandchildren Tyler, Brandon and Ashley McCormick; brothers Billy Gannon of Crossville, Gary Gannon of Eagleville and David Gannon of Antioch; and sisters Judy Cross of Antioch, Janice Smith of Nashville and Gayle Gannon of Hermitage. Mr. Jones was a retired professional engineer and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam.

Jimmy Joe Bratcher Sr., age 47, passed away Friday, December 9, 2005, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. A native of Columbia, SC., he lived most of his life in Rutherford County and in the Rover community since 1995. He was employed with America Geothermal and was a member of Rover Baptist Church.
Mr. Bratcher was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Bratcher and Jo Ann Blythe Bratcher Brown. He is survived by his wife, Maris Bourg Bratcher of the Rover community; sons Chris Savage and Jimmy Bratcher Jr., both of the Rover community; daughters Theresa Savage and Kaleena Bratcher Bullington, both of the Rover community; sisters Cindy Helton and Doris Allemand, both of Murfreesboro, and Brandy Allemand; and grandchildren Alexis Ferrell, Timothy Savage, Kaleena Savage and Savana Bullington.

Bobby Joe White, age 58, of the Haskins Chapel community, died Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, TN. Mr. White was a native of Bedford County and a son of the late Joe Edward and Mary Christine Blackwell White. He was a former construction worker.
He is survived by wife Shirley M. White of Haskins Chapel community; sisters Frances Haskins of Upland, California, Martha Alarcon of Quito, Ecuador, Sandra Whitney of Coeur D’Alene, ID, Remona Moon of Haskins Chapel community, Donna Haskins Ledford of Chapel Hill; brothers Dorris White of Haskins Chapel community, Terry White of Unionville; several nieces and nephews.

Alvin C. Brown Jr., 52, of Unionville died Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Mr. Brown was a native of Bedford County. He was a farmer and was an alumnus of Community High School Class of 1972 and an alumnus of Middle Tennessee State University Class of 1977. He raised and trained beagles and was a member of several area beagle clubs and was an avid rabbit hunter and participated regularly in competition hunts. He was selected as the Bedford County Soil Conservation District Farmer of the Year in 2003 and was a diehard Vanderbilt fan. He was a member of the Maxwell Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Mrs. Barbara Blanton Brown of Unionville; daughter Miss Kayla Brown of Unionville; son Carl Brown of Unionville; his parents, A.C. "Pokey" Brown and Ruth Douglas Brown of Unionville; sisters Mrs. Bettye (Eddie) Stacy and Mrs. Barbara (Jim) Newson, both of Unionville; brothers Mike (Linda) Brown of Murfreesboro and Coy (Pamela) Brown and Jay (Rhonda) Brown, both of Unionville; and many nieces and nephews.

George Clifford Beech, age 73, of Shelbyville, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
He was born July 22, 1932 in Williamson County to the late George Samuel and Lucy Bertha Miller Beech. He was formerly owner of P&M Insulation and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was involved in the nuclear testing at Camp Desert Rock in Nevada. He was preceded in death by a son, Dickie West, and two brothers, Edward "Fuzz" Beech and Larry Beech.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mildred Williams Beech of Shelbyville; daughter Tammie Reeves of Shelbyville; son Charles Ray Crawford of Unionville; brother Joe Beech of Shelbyville; sisters Gayle Helton of Shelbyville and Janice Taylor of Eagleville; grandchildren Richie West, Rachael Brown, Mitch Cartwright, Bud Cartwright and Hunter Crawford; and great-grandchildren Scooter West, Tori West, Andrew West, Logan West, Hannah Brown and Madison Brown.

Mrs. Ella Stem Cook, 101, of the Halls Hill Community of Bedford County, died Sunday, November 13, 2005, in Murfreesboro.
Mrs. Cook was a native of Bedford County and was a daughter of the late Thomas Sanders and Mary Talitha Crick Stem. She was the oldest member of the Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the Rover Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmon Cooper Cook, who died in 1976; by a daughter, Evelyn Cook Campbell; and by a son, Thomas Jerry Cook.
She is survived by granddaughters Kathy Davis of Mt. Juliet, Denise Harris of Mt. Juliet and Geri Forkum of Lebanon; grandsons John Campbell of Lewisburg, Sam Campbell of Shelbyville and Mark A. Cook of the Halls Hill Community; great-grandchildren Eric Harris, Mary Evelyn Campbell, Andy Davis, Clifford Cook, Lara Davis West, Clay Forkum, Thomas Forkum and Sam Riley Campbell; a great-great-grandson, Zaden West; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorris Charlton Hayes, 76, of Murfreesboro died Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Fla.
A native of Rockvale, Mr. Hayes was the son of the late Robert and Julia Williams Hayes. He was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church and a graduate of Rockvale High School. He was retired from Samsonite and was a custom picture framer. He was a retired chief warrant officer with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Bryson Hayes; sons and daughters-in-law Bobby and Annette Hayes of Honolulu and Barry and Wendy Vassar of Franklin; daughter and son-in-law Janet and Ronnie Funkhouser of Smyrna; brothers William and Marvin Hayes, both of Murfreesboro, and Frank Hayes of Woodbury; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Connie Sue Reynolds, 55, of Hickory, North Carolina, died Thursday, November 3, 2005.
A native of Dayton, Tennessee, Mrs. Reynolds was the daughter of Alice Phillips Motes of Murfreesboro and the late Elmer Emery Motes. She worked for Snyder Parer in Conover, N.C., and was a Baptist.

A native of Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Junella Hann Matney. Charlie Edmound McCallum, 82, of Murfreesboro died Friday, October 21, 2005, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. A native of Christiana, Mr. McCallum was the son of the late Charlie and Lizzie Faulk McCallum. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army, and was a retired truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Riggs Nance; daughters Joy Nance Noack of Atlanta, Mary Lou Nance deMille of Rockvale, and Karen Nance Randle of Rockvale; three grandchildren, Shannon Killingbeck, Erin Foil and Emily Little; and five great-grandchildren, Sutherlan Killingbeck, Christian Killingbeck, Ethan Killingbeck, Kaitlhyn Foil and Patrick Foil.
Mr. Nance was a member of the Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in WWII. He was a Mason, and a retired employee of the Federal Aviation Administration. He was the assistant chief of the Atlanta International Airport Tower and retired tower chief of the Knoxville Airport. He was also the co-aothor of "The History of Versailles."

Walter Denton Douglas, 80, of Unionville died Thursday, August 18, 2005, at his home. Mr. Douglas was a native of Bedford County and was retired from Durango Boot Company of Chapel Hill after 25 years of service and was also a small-engine repairman. He was a member of Zions Hill United Methodist Church. Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by a son, Don "Weasel" Douglas, and a sister, Shirley Leathers.

Jacqueline Elaine Kittrell Maxwell, 77, wife of John Marion Maxwell (deceased), formerly of Rockvale, died August 16, 2005. Jacqueline was born in Cope, S.C. She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she was a founding member of the Channing Society and worked for the university extension service doing rural surveys. Moving frequently with her husband, John, and daughter, Judith Marie, she eventually became a feature reporter for the Burlington Hawk-eye in Burlington, Iowa. Upon retiring from the Hawk-eye, she continued to be involved with her communities. John and Jacqueline returned to Middle Tennessee in the early 1980s. Jacqueline became active in the Rutherford County Family, Community and Education Club, where she served a term as president. Upon the death of John Marion, Jacqueline joined her daughter in New Orleans. There she read widely and entertained cohorts of anthropology and linguistics graduate students. Mother to only one, she was "adopted" by many and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Shirley Leathers, 66, of Murfreesboro died Friday, August 12, 2005.
A native of Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Evan and Chattie Leverette Douglas. She was a member of the Rockvale First Independent Baptist Church and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie George Leathers.

Jesse Robert Morton, 22, of Smyrna, died Tuesday August 9, 2005 from injuries received in an auto accident.
A native of Nashville, he was survived by parents Robert (Bobby) and Carrie Toombs Morton, of Murfreesboro; sister Kelly Renee Davis, of Murfreesboro; grandparents Robert and Shirley Morton, of Murfreesboro, and Alene Toombs, of the Almaville community.

Anner Vera Leathers Lamb, 75, of Shelbyville, died Monday, August 8, 2005 at Skyline Medical in Nashville. She was a native of Rutherford County, a homemaker and a member of the Eastview Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Willie and Anner Randolph Leathers and the wife of the late Howard Burnice Lamb, who died in 2003.

Leslie F. Woodson Sr., 81, of Eagleville, died Monday, August 8, 2005 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Jimmy and Louise Farris Woodson.
He is survived by wife Katherine Clark Woodson; sons Buddy (Belinda) Woodson, of Eagleville, and Charlie (Kathy) Woodson, of Rockvale; sisters Emma Gloria Ralston, of Rockvale, Leila Lynch and Sis McKnight, both of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren: Daniel, Robbie and Megan Woodson.
Mr. Woodson was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and he fought in five major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge.
He retired as shop foreman of the Rutherford County Highway Department. He was a founding member of the Tennessee Valley Pioneers Power Association and was the first inductee into its Hall of Fame.

A native of Eagleville born February 16, 1923, Mrs. Helton was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas (Bob) and Algie Stem King, of Rover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years: the Rev. Andrew T. Helton; three brothers: James (Clyde) King, Thomas (Fred) King and Albert (Leslie) King; one sister: Ruby England.
She is survived by one sister: Sarah (J.W.) Baker, of Winnsboro, Texas; two sons: Kenneth T. (Mary) Helton, of Murfreesboro, and James T. (Joyce) Helton, of Smyrna; two daughters: Barbara (Fred) Rooker and Deborah (Gary) Combs, of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; 6 step great-great-grandchildren.
She was a cook at Hobgood Elementary and MTSU until she began her 18-year career at General Electric in Murfreesboro where she retired in 1985. She was a member of the Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Rover.

Retired Maj. Bill Elmore, USAF, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Epoch Assisted Living Center in Las Vegas.
Mr. Elmore was the son of the late W.E. and Jessie Leathers Elmore. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Frances Dement Elmore, and was raised by his two aunts, the late Ethel and Mary Elmore.
He was a retired veteran of the US Air Force, having served in the Vietnam conflict. He was also retired as the assessor of property in Nevada. He was an avid racquetball player and a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Mrs. Leverette was a native of Giles County and a daughter of the late Richard Major and Lillie Mai Dunnavant Bevers. Later, she was employed with the Baptist Book Store in Nashville from where she retired after 13 years of service. She was a member of the Eagleville United Methodist Church.

Robert Frazier Ogles, 78, of Murfreesboro died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

A native of Rutherford County, Mr. Ogles was the son of the late William Ernest and Amanda Burch Ogles. He was a member of the Barfield Baptist Church, a 1945 graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School and a retired foreman and lineman with Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation with 44 years of service.
Mr. Ogles was married to the late Johnnie Ruth Weeks Ogles, who died in January 1977.

Buford Donnell Williams, 71, of the Versailles community, died Monday, June 13, 2005, at his home from an apparent heart attack. A native of Rockvale, he was the son of the late Buford and Effie McGee Williams.

He was a member of the Murfreesboro Noon Rotary Club for 28 years and was a member of the Rockvale Masonic Lodge and was a former member of the Rockvale Ruritan Club. He served in the U.S. Army for six years.

Lucy Mabel Thompson Shaw, 99 1/2, of College Grove, formerly of Chapel Hill, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at her home in College Grove where she had lived her retirement years.
Mrs. Shaw was a graduate of Forrest High School and Middle Tennessee State University. She was a member of the Marshall County Retired Teachers Association. Her career spanned for over 40 years as a teacher in the Marshall County School System. Mrs. Shaw was the oldest member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Shaw who died in 1989, her parents, James W. and Louella Thompson, sisters, Nell T. Osborne and Mayme T. Marshall; brother, A.K. Thompson and grandson, Joe Wilson.

Will “Bill” Pruitt Jr., 75, a resident of Council Bluff, Iowa, since 1961, died of natural causes on May 31, 2005, at Lhasa, Tibet, China, while on vacation.
He was born on January 13, 1930 to William and Omega (Young) Pruitt in Rockvale. He was a graduate and completed two years of college. He was a Jr. Sgt. Major in the U.S. Army from 1947-1966. He was the owner of Army Surplus Sales in Council Bluff from 1968 until the present. He was a member of the Catholic faith and Quick, Iowa, Amber Masonic Lodge.

Bennie Mae Lamb Taylor, 81, of the Rover community of Bedford County, died Monday, May 23, 2005, in Shelbyville. Mrs. Taylor was a native of Rutherford County and a daughter of the late Robert Benjamin and Alta Mai Carlton Lamb. She was a retired administrative assistant with the Tennessee Game and Fish Commission and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in the Rover community.

Audra Mae Vaughn, 51, of Chapel Hill, died Friday, April 8, 2005.
Miss Vaughn was a native of Marshall County and was a member of Riggs Church of Christ. She was a teacher recently retiring from Eagleville Elementary School were she taught for many years. Audra was a member of the class of 1972 of College Grove School and a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She received her masters degree from Tennessee State University.

Minnie Lee "Mrs. Minnie" Gaunty Brasfield, 71, of Eagleville, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, in Nashville following an extended illness. She was a native of Lincoln County, a homemaker and was a member of the Eagleville Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Sally Dee Gaunty and was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law: Ricky Lee and Kathy Beech; son-in-law and fishing buddy Gene Ewing; sister-in-law Pauline Gaunty.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he lived most of his life in Battle Creek. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. He retired from Amitech, where he had been the union steward for the local CWA for many years. He was an EMT with the Battle Creek Ambulance Service for many years. He recently moved to Tennessee and worked on the NASCAR Busch Series team of Sadler Racing, based in Nashville, as a fabricator.

Lillian Petersen Jackson, 76, of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Northside Health Care Center. She was a native of Orange, New Jersey, and spent most of her life in New Orleans, Louisiana, and St. Petersburg, Florida. She had been a legal secretary with Geico Insurance Co. and a member of Advent Lutheran Church.

A native of Rutherford County, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother: Hugh and Clara Ray Scott; her husband, Raymond L. Little, who died in 1998; and by a brother: Norman Scott.

Mary Giles Lytle, age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2005. She is preceded in death by her father and mother: Blake A. Giles and Blaine Martin Giles; her husband, Ephraim F. Lytle; sister Robbie M. Giles; three brothers: Walter Giles and wife Audrey, Henry Giles and wife Roberta and B. A. Giles. She is survived by two sons: Thomas F. Lytle and wife Judy of Ocean Springs, Miss., Robert E. Lytle and wife Brenda of Warner Robins, Ga.; three grandsons: Robin Lytle and wife Kim of Florida, Chris Lytle and wife Gina of Indiana, and Brian Rader of Tennessee; five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her niece, Connie Wright, husband Edmund and their children in Murfreesboro were always faithful in their visits and care. She held them in a special place in her heart. She is survived by Tom Thompson, a longtime Murfreesboro family friend and neighbor who helped Mrs. Lytle through many medical crisis.
Mrs. Lytle was born in Eagleville on Aug. 27, 1915, graduating from Eagleville High School as valedictorian at age 15. She practiced as a beautician in Murfreesboro until her retirement. After retirement, she kept up her active membership at First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro, doing volunteer work in the Christian Life Center. She delivered for Meals on Wheels and was active in the Senior Citizens Center of Murfreesboro. She always found time to visit friends and family. She could always be counted upon to keep everyone laughing at her sharp wit and sense of humor.
Mrs. Lytle lived at Stones River Manor in Murfreesboro from 2001-2004 where she received loving care and kindness. She lived three years to the fullest while receiving treatment for Alzheimer's at the Stones River Geriatric Clinic in Woodbury. Her health worsened, necessitating a move to Summer's Landing in Warner Robins, Ga. Recurring infections and a recent heart attack ended her life on the morning of February 17, 2005. Her sons, Tom and Bob, vividly remember in several life threatening situations during the past two years that Mrs. Lytle prepared herself to be with her Lord and was completely at peace with her relationship with Him. It gives great solace to her family to have witnessed her open discussions about her mortality as well as her intense love and trust in her Lord.

A native of Rockvale, Mr. Covington was the son of the late Rosco and Lillie Wilson Covington. He was a member of the Rockvale Church of God and a graduate of Rockvale High School.

Hollis T. "Bubba" Sanders, 75, of the Midland community, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
He was the son of the late James Thomas Sanders and Lillie Mai Knois Sanders. He was an Air Force veteran and served in Japan during the Korean War. He was formerly employed with Bedford Farmers Co-op, Uniroyal and was a farmer. He was a member of New Zion Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a brother: Milton Sanders.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Myla Jackson Sanders, of Midland; two sons: David (Betty) Sanders, of Shelbyville, and Hollis Eugene Sanders, of Rover; daughter Marilyn (Jeff) Curtis, of Shelbyville; brother J.W. Valen Lee Cooper, 20, of Arrington, died Sunday morning, January 23, 2005, from injuries received in an auto accident.
A native of Williamson County, she was the daughter of Russell and Lori Ingham Cooper, of Arrington. In addition to her parents, she is survived by brother Karl Pittman, of Arrington; grandparents Alice and Burns Cooper, of Nashville, and Bob and Marcia Ingham, of Springfield; great-grandparents Mike and Sarah St. Charles, of Brentwood; aunt and uncle Jim and Mary Alice West; aunt Libby Campbell; great-aunt and uncle E.O. and Sharon Coggin; cousin Allister Campbell.

She was a member of the Christ Family Church and was a graduate of Page High School where she played varsity softball. She was awarded the MVP and best defensive player at Page High School and was all-district in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

She was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was voted Who's Who Among American High School Students. She was known for her smile and outgoing personality, and she touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

After graduation she was awarded a softball scholarship at Daytona Beach Community College.

Louise M. Dyer, 74, of Eagleville, died Friday, January 21, 2005, in Murfreesboro. She was a native of Bedford County, a homemaker and was retired from Georgia Boot Company in Chapel Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simpson Dyer, who died in 1979, and by her father and mother: Macie Lee and Minnie Bert Carlton Manier.

John Marvin Beasley Sr., 79, of Eagleville died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in Murfreesboro after an extended illness.
A native of Eagleville, Mr. Beasley was the son of the late John Thomas and Betty Sue Morgan Beasley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and a retired electrician.

William Bryan "Jack" Smotherman, 91, of Eagleville died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Will D. and Luna Pearl Simmons Smotherman. He was a retired employee of the Tennessee Valley Authority after 37 years of service and a life-long farmer.
Mr. Smotherman was married to the late Mai Katherine Neal Smotherman who died in 1993. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Mitchell; and sisters Mary Alma Barnes and DeVera Covey.

Bogle of Murfreesboro; daughter Heather Marie Bogle of Murfreesboro; step-daughters Amanda Mitchell, Samantha Mitchell and Ricki Mitchell; brothers Thomas C.
